We are excited to share that UConn Health is planning to submit a bid to invest in Waterbury Hospital as part of a broader strategy to expand access to care and strengthen the future of healthcare in Connecticut.

Driven by our public mission and dedication to high-quality, compassionate care, we see this as a critical opportunity to serve communities in need and bring UConn Health’s award-winning care to more people across the state while ensuring our long-term sustainability.

We are also in conversations with other hospitals, including Bristol and Day Kimball, as we explore the potential to build a strong, unified network of community-focused care. By partnering with other hospitals, we can enhance access, support the healthcare workforce, and continue delivering the excellence in care, education, and research that defines UConn Health.

Before formally moving forward, our plans require approval by the university’s Board of Trustees and UConn Health’s Board of Directors.

We understand that this announcement may lead to questions, and that change – even when it brings opportunity – can feel uncertain. Please know that we will keep you informed throughout this process. To that end, I look forward to sharing more information and answering your questions at the Town Hall meeting scheduled for next Wednesday, September 24.
