Wellness Committee

Supporting a Culture of Well-Being at UConn Health

The Wellness Committee is committed to promoting the health, engagement, and well-being of all UConn Health employees. Together, we strive to cultivate a culture of physical, psychological, and emotional well-being through engaging activities, educational initiatives, and accessible resources that empower our community to thrive.

Our work focuses on:

Promoting healthy behaviors in the workplace.

Creating opportunities for connection and a sense of purpose.

Expanding access to wellness resources and events during and outside working hours.

Building a community of support through peer-to-peer initiatives and leadership engagement.

Our Purpose

We aim to ensure that wellness is woven into the fabric of our workplace, enhancing not only individual well-being but also the collective culture of UConn Health. Each member helps develop and implement activities that align with our mission, cascade information to colleagues, and connect employees with the right resources when they need them.

  • Years 1 and 2: Building the Foundation

In our first two years, the Committee:

    • Conducted the initial Well-Being Index (WBI) to establish a wellness baseline.
    • Formed subcommittees for nurses, physicians, advanced practice providers, and employees.
    • Submitted proposals for initiatives informed by WBI results.
    • Developed strategies to address key themes such as leadership communication, access to wellness resources, and peer support.
  • Year 3: Focused, High-Impact Goals

In Year 3, we’re emphasizing high-impact, low-cost interventions while keeping an eye on long-term growth into Years 5 and 6.

    Priorities include:

    • Launching the second Well-Being Index in September.
    • Gathering feedback on workplace meaning, wellness initiatives, and leadership’s role in professional fulfillment.
    • Continuing Peer Support training and launching the pilot this fall.
    • Advancing the Schwartz Rounds proposal.
    • Exploring initiatives like “Word of the Month” and Coffee Talks to promote wellness awareness through the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Looking Ahead

After the fall Well-Being Index survey, the Committee will analyze results from both rounds, identify themes, and present low-cost, high-impact proposals to leadership. Our aim: measurable progress toward a healthier, more connected, and resilient UConn Health.
